feeling warm. by the light

this christmas i didn't go to denmark. instead i...

:: tasted my first glass of egg nog (ever).

:: enjoyed christmas dinner with friends by a bright, plastic tree (so different from my tree. but it was just right).

:: went to bed with my hair smelling of the smoke from a sweet after-dark fire in the garden (with hot cocoa. but of course).

:: had many moments thinking about big and small by the candle lights at home (still have and planning more).

:: got an invitation for a surprise birthday party with a homemade lego cake. and everyone had his or her turn to have birthday, blow out the candles and make a wish (couldn't be better).

so, even if i did miss home, i still liked this christmas. at home.

  2. I love this post, with its fun (the Lego!) and its poetry (the delicate cups, the flowers by the candle)...

  6. i know what you mean. sometimes it seems impossible to feel so many different things. you got to do something new, and it all sounds lovely (I still have to have eggnog, and a lego cake:)).

  7. It sounds like this Christmas was just right. My family is scattered far and wide and so we have to come up with our own traditions and ways of celebrating. I think it's expanding to let go of preconceived notions of what the holiday should be. These photos are so warm and peaceful.

  8. my first christmas in denmark since 1956 was in 2004 for me, it was magical.. just like when i was a little girl, candles on the tree, dancing and singing around the tree, the food. it was the best ever. i try to keep our danish tradition here, we have the danish christmas the 24th. the canadian the 25th. best of both worlds, most important is family together.. traditions are beautiful. eggnog is nice.

  9. I'm glad you enjoyed your Christmas, even being so far away from your home-land. I wish I could say the same about myself. It was the fifth year in a row that I couldn't be with my family and this year it felt really bad. But I tried hard to enjoy anyway...

    Happy New Year Trinsch!
    Best wishes,
    Kasia

  15. very creative, (and i imagine very diet-friendly) cake you got there. excellent.

I, like you, can miss home while enjoying being at home. I think it is pretty good like that.

  16. Oh, did you love the eggnog? I'm on a 30 day rehab program for eggnog. I get addicted to it every year. ;)

Love that Lego cake... so genius!

Enjoy the rest of your celebrations!
