another summer, another beach

about a month ago we had one of our first visits to the beach. we went to a beach we only visited once before. it's a 30 minute drive, half of the time through tiny, bumpy roads between fish dams. and then you walk for a bit to get to the actual beach.

it's a great place. there are rocks closing up the tiny beach bay, make it a little pool. and the rocks themselves are fun to climb, full of shells and crabs. except kind of painful in bare feet.

we went there again when my friend visited. that time around we remembered to bring some wet shoes.

busy, but good

we have had visitors from denmark, a trip to jerusalem, a brief meeting with summer warmth and the beach, spring flowers. it's been a busy and good month.

hope you're enjoying these days too.

then and there :: instagram selection

this is not now. these are from the weeks before denmark. here it's snow and cold and cozy and warm inside the house. we're loving it.

if i manage to figure out how to connect my camera i'll show you. for now i'll wish you a wonderful weekend.

when it feels just right

like this friday afternoon at the beach, just before sunset.

just before we got there we had a giant meltdown in the car because someone forgot to bring that specific lego figure that was to be shown to a special cousin later in the evening (no, that someone wasn't me). and as we got to the car we got attacked by a billion mosquitos that had us literally throw the kids into the car, all wet and covered in sand, while we were slightly (but still completely out of proportion) hysteric.

but that time right there on the beach was just perfect.

i wish i could take a moment like that, wrap it up and save it for another time where it would be just the right moment to dig out this feeling. photos will have to do :)

.... tomorrow i'm off to snowy cold denmark. yeah!

reflections

we're in a time of reflection. deciding where we want to be, settle down.

i don't know if i ever really settled down where we live now, or in israel in general. as much as i love it there's a sense of watching from a distance. partly because of my nature, and partly because of the way life has played out for us. or rather, because of how we played out life.

sometimes we think about going to denmark, but as much as i love denmark there are also so many things i'm unsure and concerned about in terms of living there. we talked about it again since we're at a crossroad now and as the kids grow older it might be more and more difficult to uproot them and start over.

we like where we are now. it's not ours and we're not sure what will eventually happen. and it's an old house and we'd love to fix it, but obviously not as long as we don't know for how long we'll be living there.

we have other places we consider here in israel where we'd like to live, but there are so many logistics to consider. one of the most important things for me being schools especially since noam has learning issues and need special education.

let's see. we might just postpone the big decisions a little longer.

the fishermen's village

it was only us in the fishermen's village the other day. there was win and waves and the little place that sells fresh fish, fried or deepfried, was closed. the boats were anchored near the shore, rocking wild in the white.

it's not really a village, we just call it that. there are some trailers and couches outside, their gear and that place that sells the fish, ice cream and drinks.

i like this place.

gray days

what can i say... i'm from the north, from scandinavia, denmark. it goes straight to my heart when walking the beach on a gray day with wind and white waves. seriously, how can that not make you just perfectly happy all the way to the soul?!

and when i get to go there on my birthday with my boys and the man, well. that's kind of close to perfection.

that was yesterday. today, the rain is back. but there will be an "after the rain":

colors of fall

september and october. the colors are warm, changing. i love this season. what is it with the sky these days.... the afternoon and sunset tones, the light. it's breathtaking. and we sleep so well too as the night have gotten colder.

we had friends visiting from denmark and ended the last holidays. been to a couple of weddings and soon we'll have some birthday celebration to do.

tomorrow a new week will begin.

the last of summer

we're celebrating one holiday after the other these days. it's that time of the year. yom kippur, rosh hashana and sukkot. the children are off school (didn't we just get started?!) and we're off work half the time too.

this week we went beach camping. it was lovely. the weather has changed, the evenings not so hot as the used to be and on our last day we even had clouds and raindrops. wouldn't call it rain, but still, it's a sign. summer is soon behind us. even if it will never be that autumn i know from back home, it is still autumn - middle eastern style.

life is still busy. i'm beginning to think it might not just be a couple of days, a week or the next month. this is it. probably it was before too. you make time for what's important.

wishing you a lovely october.
