rainy days #1

it was raining a lot during the week. in israel they don't take the kids out if it's cold and wet. and certainly the kindergartens don't. most kids don't even have outfits for this kind of weather, because, well most of the year it's warm and sunny. in denmark, kids are out in rain and in snow, because, well, most of the year it's not that warm and sunny. so no mercy: they need air. and i have that gene in me :)

when the kids were younger and we lived in tel aviv, i would sometimes dress them in their rain gear and take them to the beach or playground on those few wet and dark days. you know, to get them out. i cannot even count the times i have been told by strangers, rushing home through the park, that it was a shame what i was doing, and that i should take those poor children home. now!

anyway, this one afternoon it started clearing a bit and i wanted them out. they hesitated, but i insisted (and tricked them with the promise of hot cocoa on the porch :). and then they had a blast. i was happy to see that they got it, the ability to make it fun, even when it's wet and cold. actually most kids probably do.

anyway, as we were out and about the clouds cleared. luckily the water puddles don't dry out that fast, so there was a lot of jumping. and wet socks to change when we got back home.

  3. lovely pictures!
we all love to play outside no matter what weather. and children can, like you said, make fun with everything, that is so good. wish more adults could do that too, so that i wouldnt look like a weirdo..

  4. You are such a good Mama :^) the kids will find fun in anything, and you opened up an opportunity for them that afternoon, allowing them to use their imagination...
I was just having a rainy day conversation with my husband saying how puddles were a magical thing as a kid...like spontaneous lakes!

  9. Looks like a lot of fun, mud and puddles what more could a kid want?! They are exactly the same here in Malta, if there is rain (or wind) or too much sun you keep children in. Have been told off by strangers as well (and guilt tripped by in laws) but I do believe fresh air is important .

  10. Good for you! The photos are lovely, and what a delight, hot cocoa on the porch. Everyone else is missing out. Living in a northern country, I go out in rain, snow, and even snow storms to enjoy the weather. Maybe you will start a new trend.

  11. Oh, dear. I really like getting out on these sorts of days. The birds sing differently and you can smell the earth. You captured it nicely with these photos. Thank you for sharing.

  12. I agree with you, whatever the weather (almost) I like to get the kids outside for a while. A short walk to the park, feed the ducks, play in the snow, etc. Its good for them and necessary for me - I can't stand to be cooped up in the house all day.

  14. What absolutely dreamy rain day shots! I almost yearn for rain now that we live in Colorado. I love the dry air here, but you do sacrifice rain for the most part, and a rainy day can be so poetic.
