corner view: music

life is in the way right now. i have a lot of work and a not-so-fun appointment coming up that includes a kid under full anesthesia. it's not serious, but requires that he'll be put to sleep during the process. after we realized there's no - responsible - way to avoid it, i have tried not to think about it. it scares the hell out of me. it's tomorrow.

so, i couldn't really wrap my mind around a subject, only managed to capture a few random thoughts going through my head, when thinking about music:

:: i grew up with a piano and many many string instruments, yet i don't play any myself. i wish i did, though, and i'm happy that D plays the guitar, so he can play music to the kids. i'll do the dancing then.

:: one of my boys has a thing with music. he remembers songs and melodies extremely well. he's been able to sing entire songs long before he knew how to actually talk. the other day there was someone playing music outside. he stopped, sat down and listened for a while and said "mom, i just love music". so adorable. i hope he would like to learn to play an instrument when he gets older.

:: i love the old blue note record covers from the 50's and 60's. my first serious boyfriend was a jazz musician. the avantgarde kind. i didn't like his music that much, but i loved to look through his record collection.

:: all three kids have gotten crazy with this one particular song. i put on an old cd in the car, a cd i made last year. the song "relax" by mika completely stole their hearts. that's the only thing they want to hear in the car these days while they all scream "relaaaaaaax, take it eeeeeeaaaaasyyy" (i know they don't know what it means, but i still have a feeling they're singing it to me these days :). even though it's a nice song, it's starting to drive me and D crazy.

:: this year the artist tal r made the poster for copenhagen jazz festival. i adore tal r, but i was kind of disappointed about the poster.

:: we live close to cesarea, which is the ruins of a 2000 year old roman city. i love to go snorkeling there, as the ruins are partly inside the water. there's a huge outdoor theatre that was reconstructed and is now used for concerts. you sit above the stage and have a spectacular view to the mediterranean ocean in the background. i would love to go to a concert there.

don't stop moving - the music is still playing here:
jane, ladybug-zen, ian, bonnie, esti, sophie, cele, modsquad, caitlin, joyce, ani, kim, a day that is dessert, natsumi, epe, kaylovesvintage, c.t., jeannette, outi, schanett, ritva, francesca, state of bliss, jennifer, dana, denise, cabrizette, bohemia girl, dianna, isabelle, amber, a girl in the yellow shoes, mister e, janis, kari, jgy, skymring, elizabeth, audrey, allison, lise, cate, mon, victoria, crescent moon, erin, otli, amy, ida, caroline, lisa, dorte, kimmie, la lune dans le ciel, nicola, malo, vanessa, britta, virgina, april, b, kyndale samantha, karen, kristina, dorit, goldensunfamily, sophie, janet, mcgillicutty, desiree, di, travelingmama, aimee, sunnymama, amanda, ali, jenell, guusje, britta, juanita, pamela, inna, daan, myrtille, cris, ibb, susi, jodi, lily, gillian, jeanette, athena, pienduzz, latisha, clairette, satsuki

  6. wishing you big hugs and good luck tomorrow. my daughter had tubes put in her ears when she was 2 years old, and i panicked about putting her under anesthesia to do it. i'll never forget that apprehension, so i totally understand your feelings about this. and of course everything turned out totally fine. i'll be thinking about you tomorrow!

  21. The thought of your 3 little boys singing along to MIKA is too cute and funny. What about trying'Grace Kelly' as their new favourite, that song always makes me happy. I remember singing in English as a kid (or trying too). My favourite was Great Balls of Fire only I didn't know that that was the lyrics and sang something along the lines of 'freat fal of fire'...
Best of luck with your little one tomorrow.

  26. my daughter had a crush on mika last year. she loves boys and men with curly hair. the cd was going over and over, but the really annoying thing about it is that when you hear it starting again for the gazillionth time, you think 'oh nooooo....', but then the tunes catches you. it's catchy. big time!

  27. My son has been put under general anesthesia many many times in the last year+ (and once for surgery as a 7 week old--that was the hardest) never with any problems. Good luck!
