persimmons and the good mess
i don't buy persimmons very often. but when i do we just eat them raw, like fruit. is it considered a fruit or a vegetable? they look really pretty and i wonder if i can cook with them. how do you eat persimmons?
did you have a good weekend? we did. as in did absolutely nothing. last weekend was so very hectic with birthday parties of both friends and family, so this weekend was a stay-at-home kind. it was good.
today sunday (which in the rest of the world is better known as monday, the day the week begins) i spent the entire day cleaning and organizing. those weekends at home with the entire family playing, resting, gardening, eating, cooking, etc, they sure create a mess. a good, warm, fun mess though.

what i brought home
hello little lady, i said, when i saw her in the most bizarre little yard sale in tel aviv.
a little sign on a busy street in the middle of the city saying cheapest yard sale now, with an arrow pointing towards a tiny shed in a back alley filled with cheap plastic crap, boxes of old tools, books and clothes. and then this old, but very well-kept golden dame.
i always liked these wooden sketch dolls. and this one was particularly nice in old, toned wood.
wishing you a wonderful weekend :)

life goes on
i signed up for the 365 group on flickr created by julochka of moments of perfect clarity. which made me actually take photos these past days of feeling not so good, like those two above, that i really like. they make me happy.
it's a very inspiring group with talented people offering great feedback. i already feel i have learned so much - in theory at least - from reading comments to mine as well as to other photos in the group.
i have not really read any blogs in the past week. nor have i replied to any of those sweet and encouraging comments you left me in this time regarding my career doubts and me being a bit sick. but please do know that i am so grateful and that i so appreciate your concern and to hear your thoughts. i feel better now, in body and mind, and went through my blog feed. so much goodness waiting for me out there in blog world. i will catch up soon, but not today.
i wish there was a pause button for ordinary life to push when you yourself need to slow down for a day. or three. but no such thing. so today, since i am feeling better, i have some catching up to do around the house. i think i will get started with this (and that's just the clean pile).

ps: that knitted wool throw on the couch. i love it. it's handknit, and i found it a couple of years back in a thrift store in denmark. ridiculously cheap. it's only used those few months of cold we have here in israel. it's just impossible to even look at thick wool like this in the hot summer days without starting to itch and break into a sweat. maybe that's why i treasure it so much more.

a winter diet
i really admire those who choose not to take antibiotics. if i know there's a way to get rid of the sickness and a painfully swollen throat in 24 hours or so, i will take that. any day. but it does concern me a bit that it's not more than 6 months ago i had another round of antibiotics. also a throat infection. just cannot stand being sick. so, antibiotics and chicken soup it is.

new years eve
:: there was a pretty bunch of flowers
:: there was colorful cooking.
:: there was dressing up (just like most other nights).
:: there was a dinner for two.
:: there was candle light.
:: there was a shared dessert (and a first-time making of creme brulee).
:: there was this much fire works.
:: there was some music. and rusty fingers (it's been a while).
i hope you entered 2010 in just the way and style you wanted to. happy new year to all of you.

new beginnings
i love hyacinths. the sweet smell makes me happy. and right now this smell fills the air in our house. oh, and i love the color too. only problem is i never managed to save the bulbs and get them to bloom again. if you have any tricks, you are so very welcome to share.
and since so many of you asked: yes, i really liked egg nog. loved it, actually. i don't have much to compare with, since this is the only one i tried, but i thought it was a bit in the category of baileys. or white russians. i like both, so that's good. anyway, i am happy i am not living in a country where egg nog is served every other day throughout december. because then i'd probably have a glass every other day.
the new year, and with that a new decade, is fast approaching. and i lost my - relatively - new job. investors pulled from the part i was involved in. it bugs me a bit that the comfort and calm that had just settled is now being interrupted. it felt good. and now i need to figure out what to do. i have worked a lot with hi tech and internet, pr and marketing. but right now i don't feel like it. i feel like new beginnings, but cannot put my finger on what exactly. and feelings don't pay the bills.
on the other hand, this means the new year could be a new beginning, whether it's a new job or a new career. a blank page to be filled, full of possibilities. or at least that's what i am trying to tell myself right now. this could be good.

feeling warm. by the light
this christmas i didn't go to denmark. instead i...
:: tasted my first glass of egg nog (ever).
:: enjoyed christmas dinner with friends by a bright, plastic tree (so different from my tree. but it was just right).
:: went to bed with my hair smelling of the smoke from a sweet after-dark fire in the garden (with hot cocoa. but of course).
:: had many moments thinking about big and small by the candle lights at home (still have and planning more).
:: got an invitation for a surprise birthday party with a homemade lego cake. and everyone had his or her turn to have birthday, blow out the candles and make a wish (couldn't be better).
so, even if i did miss home, i still liked this christmas. at home.
