dreamy days
a little while back i went to the beach with D while the kids spent the afternoon with their cousins at safta's place. i brought a book, some crochet work, sketch book and pencils. and didn't touch any of it. only the camera came out of the bag to capture some beautiful seaguls.
it happens a lot, when i go to the beach (sans children), that i bring tons of stuff and then just end up starring at the sea or walking, collecting shells and other bits of pretty.
then i unpacked my bag the day after and wanted to read for a moment. only to get occupied by the beautiful light on the table. sometimes i have days of being in this dreamy mood. at least as long as the kids are in kindergarten: the moment i get them home i have my feet pretty firmly planted in here and now activities.
have a dreamy day, my friends

feeling light
i went to the beach, and it was full of drift wood, shells and other beautiful treasures after the rain and storm last week.
the beauty of a feather becomes so much more apparent when the perfection is broken. curls, waves, irregularities.
my mom is coming tomorrow. i am so happy. the kids too. they have been counting the days. or rather asking every morning, is she here now? will she come today? i play the part of the patient soul - no, just a few more days. she'll be here before you know it. i think i am comforting myself too :)
fading out from here with some beauties picked in the garden a few days ago. the light seems to have brought a love for yellow :)

rainy days #2
the other day i chased the drops around the garden and the fields while D chased the kids as they were chasing water puddles (you know, the jumping).
it was a dark, wet and cold day, but still pretty. as i am posting this the sun has returned, the trees and the grass have dried up (mostly - still puddles left in the tractor tracks ;).
wishing you a week full of light. and if it's raining, go chase the drops - they are worth it.

rainy days #1
it was raining a lot during the week. in israel they don't take the kids out if it's cold and wet. and certainly the kindergartens don't. most kids don't even have outfits for this kind of weather, because, well most of the year it's warm and sunny. in denmark, kids are out in rain and in snow, because, well, most of the year it's not that warm and sunny. so no mercy: they need air. and i have that gene in me :)
when the kids were younger and we lived in tel aviv, i would sometimes dress them in their rain gear and take them to the beach or playground on those few wet and dark days. you know, to get them out. i cannot even count the times i have been told by strangers, rushing home through the park, that it was a shame what i was doing, and that i should take those poor children home. now!
anyway, this one afternoon it started clearing a bit and i wanted them out. they hesitated, but i insisted (and tricked them with the promise of hot cocoa on the porch :). and then they had a blast. i was happy to see that they got it, the ability to make it fun, even when it's wet and cold. actually most kids probably do.
anyway, as we were out and about the clouds cleared. luckily the water puddles don't dry out that fast, so there was a lot of jumping. and wet socks to change when we got back home.

falling
it's dark, stormy and rainy. and i didn't sleep well last night. something about the sound of stormy weather that makes me restless.
i had lots of stuff planned for today, but i tend to drift away, thinking about other things. i look forward to tonight where i can close my eyes and fall asleep. daydreaming about sleeping...hmmmm :)
on another note: i seriously need my scanner fixed. or rather, i need to install it. i have one of those printer/scanners in one and never got around to the scanner part. but with crappy light like today, it would have been better to scan.
oh, and you must go see these unhappy hipsters. seriously, i laughed so hard i cried last night when i found it via alexandra hedberg.

corner view - sweets. and happiness
this weeks corner view is sweets. also i have been meaning to do the happiness 101 post since sweet courtney from scattering lupines tagged me a little while back. and since sweets make me happy, and happiness is sweet, well, then let's do a combo.
:: sweets. cookies and chocolate are my favorites. and i like the taste of seasons. the cinnamon and spicy winter cakes, the special christmas cookies and fruity desserts of summer. after 8 years in israel i have also come to love the sweets that come with the jewish holidays. we just had tubi shwat, where it is all about dried fruits. in december it was suvganiot for hanukkah. and with purim coming up, these favorites of mine just re-entered my life: osnei hamman (hamman's ears). he was an evil king, and sometime soon i will tell you why we are eating his ears at purim, but i'll have to be another day.
and the 9 other things that make me happy:
:: yoga (after a long break i made my way back)
:: books
:: a stormy sea
:: wild flowers
:: a beautiful sunset
:: good food. improvised at home or out with friends
:: to create (and the vacuum in time it brings)
:: garlands (on a rainy day)
:: a good nights sleep (and waking quietly watching the morning sun)
i left out the obvious: D, the kids, my family in denmark, my friends, my home, my blog (mainly because of YOU :). and of course art, music, traveling . and on and on and on it goes. gosh! so many things to be happy about in this world (i wonder why i still get the blues sometimes!?)
-----------------------------------
for more sweets, jane's got the treats. wishing you a sweet and happy day.
(and if you wish to share your happiness, please join in on the happiness 101. making lists is always good, making lists of happy things is even better)

wearing sparkles
did i mention that i have a thing with silver and gray these days? i think so. i got these hand died tights last week and wore them last night for dinner at our favorite restaurant. not with the silver shoes though. that would have been too much, even for me. but i really do love those shoes too. they're silver, so how could i not :)
wishing you a sparkling day :)
