first film

these are from my first try with film. i found an old olympus trip 35 in my local thrift store, which a little googling told me is a simple, yet solid and - back in the 60s and 70s - very popular. it was cheap so i decided to give it a go. i have a lot to learn: it is such a different experience from the digital.

the complete lack of feed back in terms of light, focus and distance did, that i decided this first role of film to be a test - playing with settings and distance. and among the things i learned was, that i have to back off quite a bit ;) i would be more than happy to receive feedback and advice from you film shooters out there as i am beginning my second role of film.

  8. Lovely shots.
I find taking photos with film makes me feel wonderful. The process puts me into "flow" and I am transported....With digital it is more critical, on the spot assessing and discarding. (if you can catch what I mean...) :)
I find reading the manual really helpful, the one for this camera is...

This guy has every manual I've ever needed here!
I have a lot of film cameras. My boyfriend works primarily in film too.
    Best of luck with it!

  10. Film photography is so refreshing after seeing so much digital! I love the soft, grainy texture. The first one is beautiful, the lighting couldn't be any better.

  11. The light in the first pic is gorgeous!!! I'm so happy that you're trying film, Trine! I've got to warn you though: it's addictive ;-)

I find that my film pictures look best when it's slightly cloudy outside or when taken out of direct sunlight. The sun just 'wash' all details and colours away!
Can't really come up with anything else right now! I'll let you know if something suddenly pops up :-)

    Horray for film!!!

  16. oh yay! this is so exciting! i really love these and i agree with ida ... it's addictive.

p.s.: i had/often have the same issue - forgetting that i have to back off. you wouldn't think how many blurred pics i have because i was standing too close :)

  17. I think that your first try is a success!

I was given my dad's camera last year. (He died when I was six.) No one has used the camera since then, but I did put film in it and shot a few test pics. I haven't finished the roll. I don't know why I've procrastinated; You've inspired me to right now get up and put that camera where I generally set my most-used one.

  18. These are really good. I learned on a 35 mm camera and although I am by no means a professional, my advice is to just keep practicing. You are on a roll girl! But these are beautiful!

  19. You did a wonderful job! I like the way the light is in the first photo. A few months ago I picked up my film camera and it is so different and sort of funny to hold. It felt so light compare to the digital. I also forgot the waiting of the moments to be develope. xo
